Ice Dams, Roof Rakes | Flood Insurance… CT Residents take "Crash Course".
ByThe last 2 weeks have been extremely busy for our company Al’s Absolute Best Cleaning and Restoration LLC in Colchester CT. I can surly sympathize with all the problems people are having.
We have been flooded with hundreds of phone calls from terrified home owners with Ice Dams and 75% of those homes have intrusive water entering the home, from tiny leaks around window casings to water entering every room in the house and ceilings caving in. Here is an example of what one client had set up before we arrived…
When I got my first few Ice dam calls people didn’t know what an “Ice Dam “was, some had never even heard of roof rakes!
As the calls continued you could tell that folks were quickly getting “schooled” on “Ice Dams”, learning from the news, internet and the “grape vine.”
I’m proud to have been part of that learning process, we always try to have helpful information and tips in our blog, and in the last 12 days our internet presence increased by 2675 %. That’s no “typo” people are reading our blogs!
At my company Al’s Absolute Best Cleaning and Restoration we are consumer advocates, we want to help you anyway we can,
If you haven’t read our “Insured’s Bill of Rights” blogs please do so, they are there to help you understand your policy and rights as a policy holder.
If you have any intrusive water entering your home please get out your insurance policy and file a claim! It’s that easy and it is a crucial step in getting coverage! DO NOT WAIT.
A water damage job left to dry alone could result in a huge mold problem that probably wouldn’t be covered by your insurance policies! You can even loose your mortgage or even worse your health.
Here’s another Tip: Turn the lights on in a room and look at the ceilings for obvious wet spots but also look for imperfections like cracks, stains that you don’t remember seeing before, molding separating from the ceiling, nail pop’s and bumps or bulges, if you find any of these signs make sure they are not new problems.
Look at the corners of all the rooms and check for cracks bubbling paint and imperfections in those areas. Look around all your window casings for drips and other signs of moisture, check your carpets for wet or damp areas and also look at your wood floors for signs of cupping or crowning.
One last tip, if you want to add flood insurance to your policy before the spring thaw, do it now!!! It takes 30 days to go through.
Our Crews at Al’s Absolute Best Cleaning and Restoration are out on location doing emergency work all over CT, as I write this blog. Another fact I must point out is the shortage of equipment across the state especially when it comes to roof rakes!
Roof Rakes are pretty much impossible to find, along with calcium chloride (an excellent ice melting solution), and if you are looking for a company to help you since you cant find any tools…you are going to run into a waiting list.
We love what we do, from the water damage restoration mitigation, to the re-build process we deliver the highest standards of quality and service. With quality work comes a little extra elbow grease and time.
If you are in an emergency and need someone for expert advice call us! 860 537- 1594 If you have intrusive water in your home due to an ice dam, it will keep coming in until the ice dam is removed. With all the snow CT has been getting, chances of roof collapses are higher than ever. Its easy to say that CT Residents have taken a “crash course” on ice dams, roof rakes and flood insurance this winter.
